I like to think of this blog as a family-friendly place, so I’m happy to pass along writing contests for even our youngest, up-and-coming writers. You might recall I mentioned a homeschooling contest here. This next one, a CCLE Essay Contest, is nice in part because it could be a nice writing exercise for us as well. Want to work on your structure? Want to solidify your arguing lines of defense? Want to jot something down and feel a little free affirmation?
The Consortium for Classical Lutheran Educators, or CCLE, is having an essay contest answering, “What is God’s call for you today for the good of your neighbor?” The short of it is that 2nd & 3rd graders should write up to 250 words, 4th through 7th between 500-750 words, and 8th through 12th between 750-1,000 words.
- 1st Place – $200 gift card for the scholar and $50 gift card for the writing teacher
- 2nd Place – $100 gift card for the scholar and $50 gift card for the writing teacher
- 3rd Place – $50 gift card for the scholar and $50 gift card for the writing teacher
For those of us who are older but interested in writing exercises for whatever reason, pick a word count. You could even write it up in under 250 words and then progress through the other levels.
If you’d appreciate a bit of a spoiler, God calls you with His Word that you may receive His gifts, trust in Him, and love your neighbor. And may that include a bit of writing!
Or, if you’d rather not take that from me, Gene Edward Veith has a brand new book, hot off the presses!
