Uses of Enchantment

Ok, I was a bit remiss in a previous post and a friend alerted me to it. If we’re going to talk about fairy tales, we should really include a recommendation for The Uses of Enchantment.

Although it’s been a while since I read it, or perhaps skimmed it in college, it deals with all sorts of good stuff: introducing good and evil to children, equipping them with coping mechanisms and hope, etc. The Uses of Enchantment basically views fairy tales as a perfect communication tool with children who so often have such a different starting point than our adult eyes allow.

So, for the educational concept, psychological analysis, sociological effects, and inspiration for considering theological impetus for children, check it out. And, if you review it, let me know and I’ll be happy to post a review here. (I just don’t remember it well enough to do it myself!)

Meanwhile, may your own uses of enchantment serve your purposes! Happy writing!
