Since Advent began yesterday, I thought I’d highlight a few Advent resources for you. (Maybe next year I can put together such a list sooner—sorry.) It’s a bit eclectic, so I hope you find something suitable and helpful in this reverent, penitential season.

LCMS Deac. Heidi Goehmann of I Love My Shepherd and Sarah Baughman of GraftedHeart teamed up with a clever and clever idea for Advent: a devotional photo challenge! By all means, check out each announcing post, but in short you can either subscribe and post photos on social media tagging it #Advent2016, #ilovemyshepherd, and #graftedheart. Or just download the set of devotions from either website.
And, if you do post photos for every day of the challenge—shoot, I may have unintentionally undermined you there, posting this today—you will be entered to win their New Year’s Eve Prize Pack. However, I like it as a low-stress, fun little something to enrich Advent, particularly if you’re handy with a camera.

The folks at Steadfast Lutherans have put together another free Advent resource. It’s a downloadable booklet, offering you half a page of prayers and devotion, incorporating a hymn stanza in each. Looks pretty good for mind and soul and easy on the schedule.
You can also check out a link to see Lutheran Hour advent resources and LCMS resources. I think I heard of one other complete Advent devotional booklet, but I couldn’t rediscover it.
Of course, Advent is a great time to dive into the Treasury of Daily Prayer, but this year my husband and I will be using Lord Will Answer: A Daily Prayer Catechism. We’ve used it before, but nothing says you can’t benefit from devotional resources more than once, especially as they incorporate the Catechism! And, it’s especially suitable since my dear pastor-husband has been preaching through the Catechism during Lent and Advent services. Good stuff!
Now, you can consider writing as an Advent discipline, too. Write your prayers or write that you may pray what you have written. 🙂 Maybe you can sketch out your own devotional booklet and work through writing it for next year.
