The Reformation by Dr. MacKenzie

One of many celebratory books coming out this month releases today: The Reformation by Rev. Dr. Cameron A. MacKenzie.  I think very highly of Dr. MacKenzie, who teaches at Concordia Theological Seminary, and it looks to be a beautiful, coffee-table worthy book, chock full of tidbits, sidebars, images, and maps.

New Catechism Translation

Want to know what makes a great Reformation confession? A new catechism translation! Now, I know, I know, too many word changes messes up memory work and causes unnecessary confusion. I hear you. I agree. BUT yay, yay, yay for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England for presenting the world with a Small Catechism available for free use!

Overarching?

I am so torn about whether the illustrations in children’s books need to have an overarching story in and of themselves or not. SO TORN!

Provincial Life

The Disney character Belle is supposed to be great: a clever girl, beautiful inside and out. Whatever. I hate neither her nor her story. But actually thinking about her a second, since I just started watching the live action movie for the first time, what’s her existential problem?! Provincial life?!

My Brother Lives in Heaven

After my post looking for a good Lutheran children’s book dealing with small sibling loss, I got my hands on just that! A great big thanks to the Lutherans at According to Your Word for writing and selling it! (You may be familiar with them for their free resources  for catechism, worship, and the liturgy). Titled My Brother Lives with Jesus by Anna & Samuel Gullixson, I review it below.

Nooks and crannies, folks. Dark closets. Crumpled notes. <shiver>

This time I’m just going to look away and wish you well. I hope to type up two reviews for you tomorrow! 🙂
