Lutheran Press

Today I’d like to highlight Lutheran Press. As their website states, “Lutheran Press publishes selected works of Martin Luther in a low-cost, easy-to-read format. Its primary purpose is to expose the modern church to the thoughts and writings of Martin Luther which remain relatively unknown.”

Honestly, I don’t know much about Lutheran Press. I don’t know who runs it or which denomination may or may not be affiliated in some way. However, I was very, very pleased to discover this:

Basically, Lutheran Press took two sermons by Martin Luther and divvied them into lay-friendly chapters. Awesome!

To be honest, I was shocked I hadn’t heard about it. I mean, I did co-write Family Vocation: God’s Calling in Marriage, Parenting, and ChildhoodAnyway, I’m glad I know about it now as I was familiar with the sermons from our research and welcome more publicity for our dear Luther.

Two more things I want you to know about Lutheran Press.

  1. “Although many of Luther’s works are already available to the general public, their publication as part of collected works editions has prevented them from being widely disseminated. Of special interest to Lutheran Press are the smaller topical works of Luther that continue to address the Christian Church today, but nonetheless, remain effectively unknown. In order to achieve its purposes, then, it is the intent of Lutheran Press to make such works available on the internet free of charge, and by mail at a minimal cost. Proceeds from the sale of such works will be used to publish further works.” (Direct quotation from their About LP page)
  2. They have free book downloads (!!!!) AND texts of Bach Cantatas!!!!! Yay, yay, yay!

You can also view daily devotions and LP papers on their website.

I encourage you to support their efforts to bring some of Luther’s smaller pieces toward more prominent exposure and to benefit from the Luther pieces they have made so easily accessible.

Thanks, Lutheran Press!
