Meditations on the Vocation of Motherhood: Old Testament

Many warm and heartfelt congratulations to Marie MacPherson on two brand new arrivals! Both were labors of love involving plenty of labor! She’s just had a wonderful baby boy, Teddy, and she’s just released her second book, Meditations on the Vocation of Motherhood, Volume 1: Old Testament!

The vocation of motherhood, as a topic, is close to my heart, both because of my children/my motherhood and my near obsession with the topic of family vocation. 🙂 With great joy, then, I was able to read a pre-publication copy and provide a foreword.

(Ethical question: Should foreword-ers post reviews on Amazon/GoodReads? I’m presuming yes, but let me know if I shouldn’t. I’ll try to get to that later today.)

Meditations on the Vocation of Motherhood is a devotion book for mothers. Real mothers. Not perfect, idyllic mothers, but those of us who get tired and frustrated, yet strive to find joy and blessing, even in our harder times. The message is the Gospel, pure and simple, with a little realism and encouragement to equip you along your way.

On each page, there is a brief portion of Scripture (volume one obviously delving into the Old Testament), historical background, reflections related to motherhood, a timeless hymn verse, and Biblical references for further reading. The appendix includes personal narratives written by the author, sharing her journey through miscarriage and her mother’s battle with dementia.

Prepublication reviews listed on Amazon include testimony from Cheryl Swope, Rebekah Curtis, Nicole M. King (Managing Editor of The Natural Family: An International Journal of Research and Policy), Karyn Lukasek, and more.

I think it’s great and gladly endorse it. Congratulations, Marie, on the delivery of Teddy, the deliverance from sin, and the delivery box of brand-spankin’ new books!!! We can celebrate your vocation of motherhood on so many levels now, in print and hopefully in person someday!! 🙂

Readers, let’s join together in prayer with words from the Litany: “[Good Lord,] grant all women with child, and all mothers with infant children, increasing happiness in their blessings.” Amen!

“Hear, hear!” to mothers and the vocation of motherhood! (Wow . . . that’s kind of a painfully awesome pun on vocation!)
