The Creation, the Fall and the Promise Review

This children’s book, The Creation, the Fall and the Promisewritten by Lutheran author Joshua Radke and illustrated by Lutheran artist Kelly Schumacher, is what all Lutheran coffee tables should hold from now on. It is stunningly beautiful.

It has more text than a typical children’s storybook admittedly. But it is not because it is wordy. Instead each pages offers such a wealth. So, when reading to a very small child, one needn’t read all the way through. In fact, it struck me that this book demonstrates that the biblical narrative is not something to breeze through to get it over with! On the contrary, a book like this could be incorporated into a series of daily devotions for nearly any age. Meanwhile, of course, older individuals and families are sure to read cover to cover.

There is imagery and narrative, explanation and application. A beautiful example of Law and Gospel dripping with Scripture. This is a book to read over and over again, to set aside, and then to rediscover with delight once more.

Even before a child can read, this is a feast for the eyes. I recommend it as a very powerful, exquisitely beautiful baptismal gift.
