The Twenty-Third Transversed

Today’s post is inspired and fundamentally relies on the Twenty Third Psalm. This poem is an application and transversed wording in free verse for recent circumstances. (Transversed* means situated across something.) It’s a little less based on sheep & shepherd, but I hope it will comfort you with the Word of God applied to life and these days. 🙂 Let me know what you think.

The Twenty-Third Transversed

The Lord is my Shepherd
In this time of no wandering.
He makes me lie down in my home
And gives me rest.
He who rebore my soul
Leads me in paths of righteousness
For His Name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk in the midst of contagion,
I will fear no evil,
For You are with me.
Your Law and Your Gospel remain.
Your boundaries protect
And mercies sustain.

You have humbled me
And brought me to hunger.
Prepare a table
That I may taste Your gracing gifts.

Though alone, fear attacks.
My enemies are with me.
But You are my Fortress and Shield,
My balm and blessing.
I share in Your triumph
And sing of Your strength.

You wrote these days for me.
Anointed and fed me
That I may live by Your Word—
Set in this moment—
Serving my neighbors and
Waiting for You.

You prepare a place for me.
You call when it is ready
To welcome to Your feast.

Surely You will be with me
All the days of my life,
And I shall dwell in Your House
Forever.

Eschaton, come!
Shalome to God’s people.

I know I took a few side steps, so to speak, but I’d welcome feedback. 

*If you know another word which means the same thing, feel free to let me know. I’d originally wished to use conferred, but I’m not sure that would actually fit the denotation.
