The Day is Drawing Near, But When

A few months ago, my husband led an Advent preaching workshop here in the Oklahoma District of the LCMS. Leading up to it, he emailed district musicians to see whether anyone would want to try their hand at writing a hymn for it. As you can guess, I did. 🙂 And he’s encouraged me to share, so I offer my Advent hymn, “The Day is Drawing Near, But When.”

The Day is Drawing Near, But When
Mary J Moerbe
Potential Tunes: Wenn Wir in Hochsten Noten Sein (LSB 562/615) or Windham (LSB 429)

The Day is drawing near, but when?
How long until Christ comes again?
The Bride is eager to be wed
And live forever with her Head.

“Come quickly!” Bride and Spirit say.
“The martyrs plead for Judgment Day.
Creation groans in labor pain.
Descend for Your eternal reign.”

The Lord says, “I will come again.
Each head will bow and knee will bend.
Invite the poor who ache and thirst:
The first be last and last be first.”

The Spirit comforts, “Never fear.
The Lord in flesh is ever here.
He hastens. He does not delay.
He waits in mercy for that day.”

Your Kingdom comes, so come, our King,
And show Your face that we may sing
Eternally with angel host
To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Sorry that this following picture is rather blurry, but I think it gives you enough to imagine or sing it. 🙂
