As I try to cater to a Lutheran crowd, I don’t review many non-Lutheran books here. Having said that, I think Anya von Bremzen’s Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking: A Memoir of Food and Longing was phenomenal!
Focusing on food and longing was inspired! Anyone interested in Russian history, recent history, Communism, Moscow, cultural judaism, food, or food history should check it out. Wow.
I was a bit of a Russian lit nerd so I loved the literary and philosophical references. I loved the details, songs, and sentiments.
Ok. I loved just about every single tiny bit, and there are at least two recipes I now hope to try. Some of the others . . . it’s just hard to imagine such foods existing!
Amazing book!
