If I could ask a literary agent some questions, here’s where I’d start.

Outside Lutheran publishing
When I pursued my MA in theology at Concordia Theological Seminary, sometimes I’d get annoyed at all the non-Lutheran books we were reading. I wanted to read all the good stuff before I had to discern other lenses. I’ve learned a few things since then. First, a person needs to discern no matter who the publisher is. Second, some people look down on books from outside Lutheran publishing no matter what. Lutherans can be so “Lutheran-focused” that good stuff can slip right by.
God’s Calling in Marriage
From time to time Bible studies or small groups study Family Vocation: God’s Calling in Marriage, Parenthood, and Childhood. Great! Sometimes individuals even contact me to see if a study guide has been developed (No, but maybe soon!). Happily, this time, I was able to have a lovely series of chats with Marie MacPherson of Into Your Hands LLC and Hausvater, resulting in the interview linked below.

Passion plus Thought
I’m going to park this article here so I can periodically reread it. I recommend you do the same. 🙂 The thesis is “Writing equals passion plus thought,” and I think that is a breath of fresh air compared to much of the pressure we writers may put on ourselves.

Ball keeps dribbling
I thought I was heading into a good time and place. I practiced and prepped. Got myself looking good on paper and sent in a proposal to an agent. I was going to post about how good it feels to have the ball in someone else’s court for a while! Sigh. Nope. The ball keeps dribbling.

Scrooge! Ba Humbug!
New find from a Lutheran novelist and it looks amazing! Scrooge and the Question of God’s Existence, written by Steve Luhring, is about doubts about God and the Christian faith. It presents the marvelous scenario, “What would happen if Scrooge’s Christmas ghosts had given time and attention to addressing the existence of God, suffering, and purpose?” It uses a holiday classic as a forum to ponder common apologetic concerns!

Library books on Kindle
I thought I’d share one of my random writing ideas with you today. Basically, it’d be a story following this line: “You have no idea what it means to a spy to suddenly have access to library books on kindle.”

I’m not afraid to admit I’m reading the book, How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind. Seriously, who can blame me? But what I really appreciate about these tips is that they are applicable to a lot more than decluttering!

Saints of the Reformation
The Lutheran Church–Canada has released a new book to celebrate this year’s important Reformation Anniversary! It looks really good! Titled Saints of the Reformation, it explores events, ideas, and movements, sure, but also “the story of people, individuals made of the same flesh and blood as we are. it is the story of their faith, their witness, their way of handling conflict, . . . .” etc. AWESOME!
