Deaconess Installation!

I daresay there’s an assortment of people who follow this blog. Some know me better than others. Do you all know I’ve served as an LCMS-rostered deaconess for about the last 10 years? And, yesterday Trinity Lutheran Church held a deaconess installation for me as I am newly called there! Yay!

I’ve been called to a non-traditional call pretty much since I graduated with my MA in theology with deaconess certification in 2008. In briefest terms, I was called to assist my father in writing Family Vocation: God’s Calling in Marriage, Parenting, and Childhood.

(What?! Only 32 comments?! More people have read it than that!)

Then, since I’ve been blessed with consecutive children, I sort of lingered in the call without any particular duties. Now, I should tell you that I was called by the Cranach Institute, which is an organization under the umbrella of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind.  (I’d link to it, but I’m literally in the middle of redesigning the website with massive updates.) Its goal is ” working out the implications of the Lutheran doctrine of vocation and engaging contemporary culture with the truths of the Lutheran confessions.” Good stuff! I hope we can get it back up and active!

I’d like to think my first children’s book, How Can I Help: God’s Calling for Kidsfalls along that line.

Anyway, now anything I do for Cranach will be volunteer work. I’m happy with that. I’m really pleased and honored that my congregation for . . . nine years (?), where my husband is pastor, decided to call me. I will do my best to grow in my service toward them!

My areas, if you care, are our two church libraries (one indoor, one an outdoor children’s lending library), music, social media, evangelism, and mercy work. I also want to work up drafting some policies, because, yes, I’m into that.

All this has me thinking about doing a little mini-series here on the blog about church resources. Would that detract from the writing blog concept too much? Let me know! Or, well, watch me do whatever I’d like! ha ha haaa

Feel free to ask me deaconess questions here, if you have any. (NO, I will not lead worship in any way (unless you consider leadership elements of music ).) 🙂

Happy reading & writing, folks!
