You know what I love? Sure you do: Kloria books! And I just got a shipment of three of their latest board books! Yay yay yay! Today I review Father We Praise Thee, illustrated by Lutheran artist (and teacher to my daughter!) Brianna Woelmer. 😀
Here’s the Amazon description:
Begin each day with this beautiful hymn of praise, often appointed as the office hymn for Matins.
Gently awaken your toddlers to the softly painted sunrise and accompany the family through their Sunday morning, rejoicing in the God’s gifts for both body and soul.
- Father, we praise Thee, now the night is over.
Active and watchful, stand we all before Thee;
Singing we offer prayer and meditation;
Thus we adore Thee.- Monarch of all things, fit us for Thy mansions;
Banish our weakness, health and wholeness sending;
Bring us to heaven, where Thy saints united
Joy without ending.- All holy Father, Son, and equal Spirit,
Trinity blessed, send us Thy salvation;
Thine is the glory, gleaming and resounding
Through all creation.
My Review
I love this book. I love to sing it. I love to read it. I love to look at the pictures. Of course, Gregory the Great, was the bishop of Rome from 590 to his death. He’s known for his writing and missionary efforts, and this hymn of his remains as vibrant as it has always been. What a great confession! The imagery! I love that I share this with my children. Just love it. And the illustrations? Perfectly charming. Very sweet. Heartwarming. Just the right balance between real life and idyllic family joy. Very winsome and hopeful.
