Hello! Today I’m quoting something from a health program I’m participating in (Omada). Here’s hoping it doesn’t break copyright! This post is purely for educational purposes! 🙂 Anyway, before you read the paragraph, read just this little bit: “[S]cience has shown that even a little bit of writing helps you gain clarity, reduce stress, and deal with challenges more effectively.”
(Ok, hmm. How to cite this one . . . FOCUS: TIPS & TRICKS: RAISE YOUR MENTAL GAME, Omada second part, lesson 5.2)
Strategy 3: Jot down your thoughts.
We know you have enough to do already (tracking, staying active, being mindful, planning ahead….where does it end??). But science has shown that even a little bit of writing helps you gain clarity, reduce stress, and deal with challenges more effectively. It also allows you to see your emotions more objectively, which comes in handy when you are working on shifting your perspective. So when you hit a wall, grab a pen and a piece of paper and describe what’s happening, how you’re feeling, and what you might do next.
Ok, ok. It doesn’t work like a spell. For those of us who write and think about writing and stress out about writing, there isn’t always clarity, reduced stress, or challenge-easement. But sometimes there is! And, isn’t that nice to remember once in a while, too? 🙂 Sometimes there really is.
Happy writing, folks.
