I received a great pick me up in addition to all of God’s other gifts in church yesterday. Now, I have a pretty big family, but the kiddos happened to have scattered, sitting some here, others there. I was holding Joy, my friend/organist’s toddler. I love Joy. And, she gave me great joy in an unexpected way.
When my family sits together, I typically only allow one out for a bathroom break at a time. Unless it’s at the beginning of a hymn. Anyway, since they were under the care of various elders, just about all of them went out at the same time. I followed, bringing Joy.
I set her down outside the bathroom to wait, and she trotted right back to the sanctuary doors. She tapped the door saying, “In. In.”
She wasn’t impatient: she was perfect! This little one who had already been blessed by a previous service where she is a member wanted back into where God’s Word was being proclaimed.
The youngest of the littles was a model for us all. Knowing her place: in God’s house, in God’s Word, sitting where her momma had put her.
God bless that child, and God bless all of us. And, the Gospel reading and sermon were on Mark 9:30-37 (!!), including:
And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”
Absolutely heartwarming and encouraging about the next generation, so I thought I’d slip it here into a post. 🙂 Hope you don’t mind.
May we all have Joy down in our hearts. 😉
