If you are interested in writing Lutheran hymnody, you have got to check out this Raabe Hymn Text Competition!

The long and the short of it is that there are three hymn tunes which are currently underutilized. Two are paired exclusively with a Transfiguration text, and the other is lovely but scheduled rarely due to it’s “evening” texts. This contest hopes to expand texts available for those tunes.
Follow the link. Think. Pray. Write! 🙂 And may that writing be a blessing to you and the whole church!
The deadline has been extended to September 15, 2019. The writer of the winning text will receive a $500 honorarium. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older, but otherwise the contest is open to all individuals, regardless of denominational affiliation. The publisher & copyright administrator would be Augsburg Fortress.
Now is a great time to write Lutheran hymnody. Even if you haven’t tried your hand at it before, why not try? And, who knows, even if you try to win this one but don’t succeed, it may be that this practice is one step closer to something wonderful.
I’d love it if these folks could get flooded with serious Lutheran content. Give ’em something to talk about!
