Household Sonnets

Last year I posted about the release of Household SonnetsYou can read all about that here. Today I offer my review.

Household Sonnets Review

This is a lovely idea capably done. Admittedly, some of the household items are no longer common, so here is a list of those included:

  • Table
  • Chair
  • Bed
  • Hearth
  • Tongs
  • Pot for Extinguishing Coals
  • Closet
  • Chest
  • Stove
  • Pot
  • Serving Platter
  • Lighter
  • Candlestick
  • Candlewick Trimmer
  • Mirror
  • Clothing Brush
  • Coat Hook
  • Clock
  • Painting
  • Bookcase
  • Scrub Brush
  • Duster
  • Spinning Wheel
  • Washtub
  • Bucket
  • Lamp
  • Bellows
  • Sulfur Bin
  • Honey Pot
  • Mortar
  • Couch
  • Cradle
  • Clothes Basket
  • China (dishes)
  • Meat Barrel
  • Pan
  • Knife
  • Grill
  • Ash Shovel
  • Ash Broom
  • Broom
  • Scouring Pad
  • Napkin
  • Jug
  • Lantern
  • Tea and Coffee Service
  • Cabinet
  • Pot Hanger
  • Writing Slate
  • Jewel Chest

As you can see, some of these household items provoke thought more than serve as our own daily reminders. Still, if you’re interested in Christ-centered poetry; seeing Christ in daily, humble life; emblem books/ wood carving illustrations; historical settings; or theology tied to reminders all around us, this book is for you.

This is a nice collection, especially when you’re open to something just a little different but within a historical continuity of the home and church.

Nicely done, Rev. Richard. Be sure to also check out his Passion Book for Holy Week!
