Summer reading lists. Who am I kidding? We’ve probably gone past lists to piles next to bookshelves. Or, as my dear friend Madelein puts it, we’re working on our PhDs: Piles heaped Everywhere! Even so, why not learn about more titles? Am I right? So today I recommend the Issues, Etc. book of the month archives. (Scroll down to the very bottom of the linked page.)
In my circles, just about everyone knows Issues, Etc., as a long-running, at times edgy, engaging radio program that people stream around the world. They also put on conferences, including one coming up quickly in Collinsville, Ill.
(Speakers include Rev. Dr. Larry Rast, who is great, Rev. Dr. Carl Fickenscher, who is great, and such notables as Rev. Jonathan Fisk (book/website), Adriane (Dorr) Heins (book/ synodical posts), Rev. Bryan Wolfmueller (books/ blog), and Rev. Chris Rosebrough.) (Sorry—I think registration is sold-out.)
Anyway, Issues, Etc. book of the month is a great side perk to their Christ-Centered Cross-Focused Talk Radio.
I’m far away now, but I used to see them set up their traveling booth at conferences and conventions and I always thought it would be cool to interview face-to-face with them. Face-to-face is a lot easy than over the phone, at least for me. Even better, however, for different venues is an email interview—blessed innovation!
Back to their book of the month: it seems like all their endorsed books are from Concordia Publishing House, which means they have presumably gone through synodical doctrinal review as well as Issues, Etc.’s own. So that’s a bonus in my book.
Here’s hoping my on-the-verge-of-release book makes the list!
