Online Book Clubs

I have not forgotten that I’ve offered to lead an online book club through Gene Veith’s Reading Between the Lines: A Christian Guide to Literature(I first posted about that idea here.) My plan for that is below. Plus, I’ve learned about another great opportunity if you’re into online book clubs!

My Book Club

For my book club I’d like to use the new Facebook Messenger Rooms for the Writing (LCMS) Lutherans group. I think that will be easier than Zoom and frankly I wouldn’t need to gather and handle all your personal information. If you aren’t on Facebook, you can still join. Let me know that you’d like to attend and I can send you a link.

I’ve dabbled with the feature some, but if I’m wrong, someone please correct me. 🙂

I imagine we’ll start with discussion in addition to the book’s material, especially at the beginning as we discuss “reading between the lines,” connotations, and cultural stuff. Try to read through the more introductory chapters in the beginning. Then after our first meeting, we could determine how much further to go in the reading for the next one.

I apologize for the delay in selection times and dates. Although our girls’ softball league has rescheduled for the ball, I needed to wait to see about my son’s Tball schedule. (I am a little surprised they are playing, but I am also SUPER grateful that so few cases have been in our part of the country!!!)

I’m thinking Wednesday nights at 7pm or 8pm CST. Still, I’ll put a poll up on Writing (LCMS) Lutherans to see when may be a good time to do it. Otherwise, comment/email/message me.

Another Online Book Club of Sorts

I also want to share that Wittenberg Academy is hosting their own version of online book clubs! That is, Dr. James Tallman, Dr. Gene Veith, and Rev. Brandon Koble are going to lead readers through CS Lewis’ Space Trilogy! I’m presuming it will include discussion.

I, for one, think that sounds amazing!

The dates for that are Tuesday evenings at 7pm CST for an hour. Register here for these “Tuesdays with Tallmon (and Friends).”

Wrapping it Up

If I were you, I’d be checking my calendar and reading these books!

By the way, we’ve enrolled our oldest in Wittenberg Academy for next year and are very excited for her to have the Lutheran education they offer! Woo hoo!
