Wazzlewood Giveaway
I won’t re-review it here, but by all means refresh your memory here.
What I want to do today is encourage you to add The World of the Wazzlewoods into your early chapter book library. You know, right next to the Magic Tree House books that just about all young children read these days, as they ease into longer books.
It’s struck me as a pretty important time in a young reader’s life: a chance to finally enjoy, rather than struggle or reject, reading.
This Wazzlewood Giveaway is an encouragement for just that enjoyment and reading pleasure. 🙂 Moreover, it’s an encouragement from one Lutheran to another: think about what books your kids could be getting into. This charming little fantasy is lovely, charming, and imaginative. It’s a welcome addition to any reading plan you may put together for the CPH reading challenge or any other challenge!
And, it seems to me, that age that reads easy chapter books . . . they don’t always have a lot of options. Which makes it even better to be able to choose to buy from a Lutheran author who won’t contradict a Christian worldview or encourage negative elements.

I would love to enter the giveaway! I have Read a kindle version of the book and it is delightful. The only reason I haven’t introduced it to my reading child is because she prefers series and there is only one book. If there is a sequel coming that makes me very excited, I love the allegory using the wazzlewoods and their creator (grandfather of the children). I am so very excited to hear of a sequel in the works!!!!
As for other series for that age group, my 7yo loves reading The Boxcar Children (though it has maybe sparked her sense of adventure *too* much).
How fun! I haven’t heard of this one but I bet my 8yo would love it. He recently finished the Dragons of Blueland series, which he thoroughly enjoyed!

Children’s books are one of my favorite topics, so I’ll be brief here. Some of our favorites for early chapter books are Cobblestreet Cousins (by Cynthia Rylant, all her books are wonderful), Billy and Blaze, George MacDonald fairy tales, and Hudson Talbott’s Arthurian books (they’re very long picture books).
Oooh, I collect children’s books for a living library and this one sounds right up our alley! Thank you for the opportunity!

This sounds like an excellent book! My son will be starting easy-reader chapter books this fall, so I don’t have any favorites to offer, but I’m going through comments to find recommendations 😄

Some good first chapter books are the Jenny and the Cat Club books and My Father’s Dragon books. I also just discovered a series from the 50’s by Ruthven Todd, with the first of four books called Space Cat. I just gave it to my 7-year-old grandson, who’s interested in space, for his birthday. I ordered it from Bas Bleu. (I shop on Amazon as little as possible!)
