I find Bible study to be very provocative in a possible sense. It gets my juices flowing, seeing new connections to God’s mercy and fulfillments of prophecies. And, it just so happens that when your brain starts to work, sometimes it continues! Yay! I often find myself scribbling down notes and ideas in between Bible study and church as I ponder from that productive state of mind. What Bible study brought up today, however–in my mind at least, is whether I succumb to writing idolatry.

Usually I pride myself on being a reasonable person. Sure, I kind of try to do it all–I aim for Superwoman. Still, yesterday I was very depressed about my project and trying to be a writer in general. My kind, calming husband pointed out that Luther’d have trouble, too, these days.

Fairy Rings

Outside Lutheran publishing
When I pursued my MA in theology at Concordia Theological Seminary, sometimes I’d get annoyed at all the non-Lutheran books we were reading. I wanted to read all the good stuff before I had to discern other lenses. I’ve learned a few things since then. First, a person needs to discern no matter who the publisher is. Second, some people look down on books from outside Lutheran publishing no matter what. Lutherans can be so “Lutheran-focused” that good stuff can slip right by.
Small Sibling Loss

There has not been a recent death in my family, but I’m curious about finding good resources. Do any of you have any book recommendations to help little ones with the loss of an infant brother/sister? Due to miscarriage or anything else? You know, small sibling loss? Below are a few suggestions from a deaconess friend, but we haven’t found one from a solid Lutheran perspective yet.

The Disney character Belle is supposed to be great: a clever girl, beautiful inside and out. Whatever. I hate neither her nor her story.
